What Your Story Needs to Shine, at an Affordable Price
Developmental Editing
The big picture stuff: character development, plot, structure, and theme.
Line Editing
The rhythm and polish: sentence-level editing to make the writing sing and flow.
Copy Editing
The technical details: ensuring flawless grammar, spelling, formatting, and clarity.
Custom Editing
Unique to you: what do you need? A combined developmental and line edit? Editing specific chapters?
Editing, Done Your Way
These editing categories are just a starting point. Some writers already have a good idea of what type of editing they need, but others aren’t sure. Either way, a sample edit is the best way for us to nail down the right approach for your story.
Take a closer look at each option below, then when you’re ready, let’s find your ideal book editing solution!

Developmental
Editing
Here, we tackle the meat and bones of your story: its characters, plot, and structure. I’ll watch out for plot holes, pacing issues, or weak characters. We’ll discuss the overall theme and dissect characters’ motivations, personalities, and arcs.
Developmental editing involves little “actual editing.” Instead, I mostly leave comments throughout the manuscript and write up further feedback/questions. This type of book editing usually involves some back-and-forth communication, as I’ll need a thorough understanding of your goals and the story to analyze every piece of the puzzle.
line
Editing
This is where the metaphorical red ink comes in! Using “Track Changes” in Word, I’ll make edits at the word, sentence, and paragraph level to make your writing shine.
Good writing should be easy to read. It shouldn’t feel choppy, or rushed, or uneven. Line editing is all about revising sentences and paragraphs for the best flow and rhythm.
Copy
Editing
While line editing is about making the writing sound good, copy editing ensures it’s technically correct. Using Track Changes again and that digital red ink, I’ll go through with a fine-toothed comb for grammatical issues, misspellings, and formatting issues.
People often think of copy editing as adding missing commas, and there certainly is some of that. But there are a lot more subtle and diverse errors in the average manuscript than you might think!
Custom
Editing
Maybe those three options don’t quite fit your needs. No worries! I’m always happy to discuss your unique goals and collaborate on a custom book editing service.
For some writers and books, it makes sense to combine developmental and line editing. Others might want developmental editing for the entire manuscript, and line or copy editing for only the first few chapters, so that you can then apply my revisions to the rest of the book yourself–saving you money.
I also offer professional beta and alpha reading!
Fantasy
Dystopian
Sci-Fi
And More
Fantasy is my jam. Epic, urban, historical; you name it, I’ll read it (but admittedly, epic and medieval fantasy are my favorites). I also love editing dystopian and sci-fi novels. Perhaps you see the theme: I like to escape reality with a good book!
But my book editing services aren’t limited to fantasy, dystopian, and sci-fi. I will consider projects in just about any genre. I will always try to be honest with writers about whether or not I’m the best fit for them.
So, it never hurts to ask and do a sample edit. It also depends what type of editing you want. While I’d hesitate to offer developmental editing for a genre I’m not very familiar with, line editing or copy editing might be fine.
